OK, here it is, my first blog post. I guess I should say a little bit about myself, even though most of the people who will read this already know me. I’m a computer programmer and former musician, living in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. I work for a health insurance company. That being said, this blog is not about computers or music or health insurance. Since all my work is in mainframe programming, I really don’t know a lot about web applications, but I hope to start learning. I may touch on the topics of music and computers from time to time, but that’s not the purpose of this blog.
This blog is about my attempt to lose a large quantity of weight. I weigh in excess of 400 pounds. So, you can see I’m not talking about needing to lose a few pounds here, I’m talking about needing to lose more than an entire adult human being. So, how did I get this large? Well, that’s a good question. I’ve been overweight my whole life, but I didn’t start ballooning up to my current weight until I was in my mid-30’s. I’m now in my mid-40’s, so, as you can imagine, I’ve really reached crunch time here. I think it’s probably a combination of a change in metabolism and a breakdown of the small amount of discipline and willpower that I actually possessed. Now my job is to rediscover and harness that discipline. I’m also considering weight loss surgery, although so far, I’ve been too much of a wimp to call for a consultation. I have a fear of going under the knife.
The primary purpose of this blog will be to keep family and friends updated on my weight loss efforts.
As for my family, I’m single, I have two older brothers and one nephew. My mother is passed on, and my father is a healthy old fart who can’t understand why you can’t buy a house for the money that he spent on his house in 1966. Yes, that’s right, 42 years in the same house!
As for my personal interests, I enjoy reading, music, movies and politics (as spectator sport only since the profession requires too much talking and too much bending of the truth for me!). I also enjoy baseball (I’m a long-suffering fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. At least they made it to the post-season last year!).
Well, I think that’s enough for my first post. Stay tuned!

We give your first effort an A+
Glad you started a blog; it’s very therapuetic, plus, it gives you a reference of the past.
Great post!
